Extract Systems, a leading provider of automated redaction software, is pleased to announce that the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office has selected ID Shield Intelligent Redaction Software. As documents are received by the Dallas County DA’s office for criminal case prosecution, they will be processed through ID Shield and automatically redacted. ID Shield will be installed on the workstations of 150 criminal attorneys to review the results of the automated redaction process before documents are released.
In 2013, Texas Governor Rick Perry signed the Michael Morton Act into law. The law states that certain documents shall be redacted. The responsibility to redact technically falls on the defense attorneys, but Dallas County felt it was important to add another layer of protection by implementing ID Shield in the District Attorney’s office. It selected Extract Systems after a review of the two redaction vendors contracted by the Texas Conference of Urban Counties, of which Dallas County is a member.
ID Shield is integrated with TechShare.Prosecutor, Dallas County DA’s case management system. The automated redaction software monitors incoming digital media evidence. Before processing for redaction, ID Shield sorts and classifies incoming court documents based on content, and passes the primary document type information to TechShare.Prosecutor. Document types include Offense Reports, Witness Statements and Medical Records. ID Shield is removing several sensitive data fields, including: Dates of Birth, Addresses, Social Security and Driver’s License numbers, along with all Financial Account information. After documents have been processed with ID Shield, a prosecutor is notified that there are files queued for verification. The attorneys make any needed modifications from the user-friendly ID Shield Rapid Verification interface. After verification, the attorneys make the redacted version of the document “discoverable” in Prosecutor.
