Fairfax Circuit Court selects Extract to redact SSNs in court documents

Extract Systems was selected by the Circuit Court of Fairfax County, Virginia to redact SSNs from more than 1.5 million pages of court documents as a service at Extract's secure facility. Fairfax County is the most populous jurisdiction in the Commonwealth of Virginia with more than 1.1 million residents and an annual budget larger than four states.

FairfaxSelectsExtractRedactSSNsFairfax Circuit Court cited Extract’s data privacy capabilities and experience as the primary reason for its selection to protect constituents’ private information. Extract had previously worked with the County to redact more than 44.5 million pages of historical land records for the Land Records Division of the Fairfax Circuit Court. This large project was completed with a 99.5% accuracy rate, ahead of schedule and on budget.

For the redaction of court documents, Fairfax County once again had a deadline to meet due to a software conversion from its legacy system to a new case management system, Justice Systems FullCourt CMS. Extract’s award-winning redaction software, ID Shield, read the documents and flagged about 160,000 as containing a Social Security Number. Extract’s expert staff verified documents and achieved a 99.5% accuracy rate for the project which was delivered four weeks ahead of schedule. Due to the county’s unique business requirements, the software returned all court documents processed by ID Shield back to Justice Systems FullCourt CMS in two formats, TIF and PDF.

John Frey, Clerk of Fairfax County Circuit Court said “Extract Systems delivered a quality redaction project with a minimum of disruption and time required from our already stretched team.”
